We’ve all heard of the recent wildfires in the Amazon Rainforest, which was triggered by the uncontrolled deforestation activities in the country of Brazil. Millions of trees, animals and vast areas of land burnt up as the world looked on at mother nature’s fury.
Our very deeds have led to this present, and in our deeds alone, lies the future…
How do we, commoners, avert the destruction that lies ahead? How do we, ‘busy’ people, take time from our ‘busy’ lives to promote aforestation?
Christian Kroll, founder of Ecosia, took the most vastly used commodity of all, the internet, and gave it an eco-friendly touch…
Ecosia is an Internet search engine, that plants trees by donating 80% or more of its profits to nonprofit organizations that focus on Reforestation. It provides full financial transparency, protects the privacy of its users, and is certified by B-Lab as a benefit corporation.
A single search on Ecosia raises approximately half a Euro cent (0.005 EUR) on average, taking 0.22 euro and 0.8 seconds to plant a tree. According to their website, as of 24 August 2019, the search engine had been responsible for the planting of more than 66 million trees.
In 2018, Ecosia committed to being a privacy-friendly search engine. Searches are encrypted, not stored permanently, and data is not sold to third-party advertisers.
On a whole;
Ecosia = Trees + Privacy !
